The long run: Ragnar Relay brings runners through Cottage Grove

Park High School served as a major exchange point for the Ragnar Relay Great River, an overnight race that began August 18 in Winona and passed through Cottage Grove the following day and finished in Minneapolis. Call it a 200-mile, very sweaty parade.

The Ragnar Relay Great River began Aug. 18 in Winona and ran overnight through the St. Croix Valley in Wisconsin before crossing back into Minnesota. Costumes were optional but plentiful.

Sunrise the following day saw runners streaming south from Stillwater, along Woodbury Drive and into Cottage Grove. Park High School served as a major exchange point where support vans, decorated like rolling birthday cakes, crammed the parking lot. Many weary runners headed to the gym to catch some sleep.

Among the local teams who took a victory lap across the finish line at the East River Flats Park in Minneapolis: Team #BAMFS and Team Indecisive Runners.
