Weekend planner: Crime board fundraiser Sunday, many Halloween events


HILLSIDE SPAGHETTI DINNER -- The staff at Hillside Elementary School is hosting its 15th annual spaghetti dinner from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29 at the school, at 8177 Hillside Trail, in Cottage Grove. Tickets are $5 in advance or $6 at the door. Children, and seniors, 55 and older, pay $4. Preschoolers eat free. In addition to spaghetti, the menu will include meatballs, salad, bread, a cookie, juice and coffee. Everyone is invited to attend.

EAST RIDGE BAND FINALE -- The Marching Raptors and the Marching Royals will perform their 2009 season finale at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29, at the East Ridge High School Field House, in Woodbury. They will perform separately and together. Everyone is invited to come for the music and a raffle.


YMCA HARVEST CELEBRATION -- The Southeast Area YMCA is hosting a free community family night from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, at the YMCA, 2175 Radio Drive, in Woodbury. Activities will include special crafts, games, popcorn and a movie, a bounce house and a family Zumba class. The gym and swimming pool will also be open. For details, call the YMCA at (651) 731-9507. FAMILY FALL FESTIVAL -- Games, face painting and a special program for the whole family is scheduled from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31 at Crossroads Church, in Woodbury. All are welcome. Admission is free and costumes are encouraged but nothing scary. Dinner will be available for purchase at a small fee with the proceeds going to the church's youth ministry. The church is located at 5900 Woodbury Drive, one mile north of 70th Street and one mile south of Dale Road.


TRUNK OR TREAT Members of the congregation at Christ the Lord Lutheran Church will hand out candy from their decorated cars in the church parking lot from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Halloween, Saturday, Oct. 31. Everyone is invited to participate, and then go inside for apple cider and snacks. The church is located at the corner of Highway 19 and 90th Street, in Cottage Grove.


AUXILIARY PANCAKES -- The American Legion Post 98 Women's Auxiliary will host its first fall all-you-can-eat pancake buffet from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1 at the Legion Hall, 328 Broadway Ave., in St. Paul Park. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4.50 for children, ages 4 to 10. Children, 3 and younger, eat free. Along with pancakes, there will be French toast sticks, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, potato cubes, cheesy hash browns, orange juice, milk and a bottomless cup of coffee.

CRIME BOARD BREAKFAST -- All-you-can-pancakes will be served along with bacon, eggs, milk, coffee and pop at the Cottage Grove Crime Prevention Board benefit breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1, at Applebee's, 8380 East Point Douglas Road, in Cottage Grove. Tickets are $5 per person. McGruff the Police Dog and Cottage Grove Police Officer Vandervort and his K9 partner, Blitz, will be on hand to meet families. There will be small prizes for kids, according to a press release.


BAND CONCERT -- The Park High School band under the direction of Peter Bergman will perform in concert at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2.
